Do You Know What Each University Deadline Means?

You feel lost with so many dates published by the universities and apart from them, they have particular names, and you don't know how they differ? Here we will explain the types of deadlines (deadlines to apply to your university options) and which one suits what situation.

Keep in mind that the deadlines will vary from one university to another, they may also have different deadlines for international students or those planning to transfer. All of these deadlines are for admission applications only ; colleges may have different forms for their Financial Aid forms, scholarships, and more.

These are the different types of deadlines:

  • Early Decision

In this deadline applications must be submitted between October 15 and November 15, generally, a response is received in December. Although the early decision deadlines have a similar timeline as the Early action (see below), it has one big difference: it is binding. That means that by submitting an application for an early decision, a university agrees to enroll you if you are admitted. This deadline is only if you are 100% sure that the university you chose is the right one for you.

  • Early Action

In this deadline applications must be submitted between October 1 and November 15, this deadline is non-binding, it is also known as the least intense. With Early Action, you will also submit your application around November and will usually receive the response in December, but you can still apply at other Early Action schools, and you don't have to commit to a school if you are admitted. Some schools also divide these deadlines, with an "Early Action I" or "Early Action II."

  • Single Choice Early Action

The Single Election Early Action is a non-binding but exclusive deadline; In this deadline applications must be submitted between October 1 and November 15, it works very similar to the typical Early Action deadlines, except that in this way only one application can be submitted to a university. Not many colleges offer this option, however for those that do, it shows that you are much more interested in attending the institution.

  • Regular Decision

These deadlines are non-binding and widely available. The regular decision deadlines are between October 1 and November 15.

  • Rolling admission

Universities that have Rolling Admissions do not have an application deadline (also non-binding) accept applications until their programs are full, often through April and during the summer. However, there is a chance that you will lose your spot if the class fills up, and you could miss out on scholarship opportunities, so it's best not to wait too long.

When considering the possibility of applying to a university under any of these dates, the first thing you should take into account is your preference, once you establish a hierarchy choose which dates you want to apply and when you feel comfortable with the deadlines, start with your applications quietly.
